The fire, which started shortly before 11 p.m., occurred at 3507 Kennedy Boulevard near South Street and initially generated heavy smoke and flames from a ground-level business, quickly spreading to adjacent residential units.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were treated at Jersey City Medical Center. The American Red Cross Disaster Action Team responded, providing emergency assistance to the displaced residents as firefighters worked into the night to contain the flames and protect nearby structures.
The fire’s cause remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Prosecutor’s Office at 201-915-1345 or leave a tip here.
New Jersey remains under a red flag warning due to dry, windy conditions, which have intensified the risk of fire spread. Authorities are urging residents to avoid any activities that could ignite additional fires.
